LONDON, April 1 (Reuters) - Roy Hodgson's second stint as Crystal Palace manager began with a 2-1 Premier League win over Leicester City on Saturday, as the London side registered their first victory in 2023 thanks to a late winner from Jean-Philippe Mateta. Hodgson had been brought in to secure Palace's future in the top flight but with both teams looking likely to extend their winless runs, Jordan Ayew took matters into his hands in added time in the second half with a solo run into Leicester's half. We needed this win – for the team, for the new manager... Meanwhile, Ivorian winger and Palace's top scorer this season Wilfried Zaha was forced to limp off with a groin injury. It was only the second league win in 10 matches for the home side who remain in an unaccustomed 10th place half-way through the season. Today we had five young players in the starting 11, they are doing a really good job at the moment." "Today we are happy for the three points," said Potter, who took over from Thomas Tuchel in September. Palace are in 12th place, six points behind Chelsea. Before kickoff, former Chelsea players who had been coached by or appeared alongside Gianluca Vialli joined the teams to pay tribute to the former Italy international and Chelsea player-manager who died 10 days ago.
Forest edge out Palace to move off the bottom

NOTTINGHAM, England, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Morgan Gibbs-White grabbed the only goal as Nottingham Forest beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday to ensure that they will not spend Christmas at the bottom of the Premier League. "We rode our luck with the penalty but I thought the best team won," Forest manager Steve Cooper told the BBC. Instead, it was Palace who were awarded a spot-kick when Joe Worrall brought down Zaha just before halftime. Lingard could have killed off the game in the 75th minute after a brilliant Forest attack in which Gibbs-White picked out Brennan in the box. Palace left plenty of space for Forest to exploit as they poured forward looking for an equaliser, but the home side hung on for a much-needed win.
A second-half goal by Brazilian defender Gabriel earned Mikel Arteta's side their 11th win in 13 league games and they have now beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea. Gabriel's 63rd minute toe-poke by Gabriel was enough to lift Arsenal to 34 points from 13 games. "We're not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall," Potter said. But despite constant pressure they could not equalise as Liverpool held on for their first away league win of the season. Tottenham are in fourth place with 26 points from 14 games while Liverpool rose to eighth with 19 points.

LIVERPOOL, England, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal of the season as Everton ended their three-match losing streak in the Premier League with an impressive 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at home on Saturday. "For the team and for myself to get the win today it went exactly how I hoped," Calvert-Lewin said. The result ended Palace's unbeaten run of three league games and also means that they are yet to win an away league game this term. "I think we were second best in every department of the game," Palace manager Patrick Vieira told the BBC. "We saw a team who played with determination to win the game and we didn't match that level.
